Gold Filled vs Gold Plated
Do you know the difference between gold plated and gold filled items?
Gold plated items go through a process where the base metal is dipped into a solution containing gold. Afterwards, an electrochemical reaction occurs by zapping a few layers of gold onto the base metal with an electric current.
Gold filled items go through a mechanically more rigorous process, through extreme pressure and heat bonding, that contains a higher amount of gold that will be bonded to the base metal. This process is repeated several times, resulting in a thick layer of gold, meaning it's durable and longer lasting than gold plated.
